Ribbons and Bibbons Box Number 2

£55.00

A French Lavender patterned paper-covered box with a hinged lid, filled with an array of vintage-style ribbons in a suite of exquisite harmonising pinks, reds and russets. This present is both beautiful and useful. The ribbons have a myriad of uses and the box itself is ideal for storing bits and pieces from a sewing cupboard: a button collection; needle book, thimble, tape and pins. Alternatively, the whole thing is a repository of promise, for looking at, appreciating, gloating and planning. A perfect present for any sewing, craft or colour enthusiast.

The name of the box is an allusion to Edward Lear’s Quangle Wangle, whose hat, you will remember, was a hundred and two feet wide, with ribbons and bibbons on every side:

On the top of the Crumpetty Tree
The Quangle Wangle sat,
But his face you could not see,
On account of his Beaver Hat.
For his hat was a hundred and two feet wide,
With ribbons and bibbons on every side
And bells, and buttons, and loops, and lace,
So that nobody ever could see the face
Of the Quangle Wangle Quee.
